Which Hardwood Floor finish is right for you?
Hardwoods used for flooring can be placed into two categories – paler woods such as Ash, Oak or Maple; and darker, denser timbers such as Teak or Padauk; the latter can cause problems with many types of finish, especially water based lacquers. Finney’s Transparent Fixative will help finishes adhere to more greasy or oily surfaces although the wood will need cleaning with white spirits first.
Finishes for paler hardwoods
Basin No Visible Oil, Finney’s Trade Acrylic, Finney’s Extra Tough Floor Varnish, Finney’s Extra Tough Waxed Finish, OSMO Polyx Oil, Saicos Premium Oil, Treatex Hardwax Oil, Fiddes Hardwax Oil
Finishes for darker woods
